Commercial and shop epoxy flooring in Houston
Shops, warehouses, auto bays, gyms and commercial kitchens need floors that handle more than parked cars. The contractor matches the system to what the floor faces, from forklifts and spilled fluids to hot washdowns, and schedules the work around your hours.

Matching the system to the space
| Space | Common system | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Workshops, auto bays, garages used as shops | 100% solids epoxy, often with a polyaspartic topcoat | Thick, hard film that handles tools and fluids; the topcoat adds hot-tire and chemical resistance |
| Retail, showrooms, offices | Flake or metallic epoxy, polyaspartic topcoat | Appearance, easy cleaning, fast return to use |
| Warehouses | Epoxy systems built for traffic | Wear resistance; joints and cracks need repair first |
| Commercial kitchens, breweries, food areas | Urethane cement | Built for hot washdowns and wet conditions |
| Gyms | Flake floors with a textured topcoat | Grip and easy cleaning |
General guidance. The contractor recommends a system after seeing the floor and how it's used.
Planning around downtime
Downtime is often the real cost of a commercial floor. Polyaspartic topcoats are typically walkable in 3 to 4 hours and ready for vehicles in about 24 hours, so many businesses do them over a weekend. Epoxy systems need longer: Concrete Network says vehicles should stay off epoxy for about a week until it's fully cured. Ask for the schedule in writing.
Kitchens and wet areas
Kitchens and food areas see hot water hitting cold floors, which can crack ordinary epoxy. Urethane cement is the usual choice there. PennCoat, a commercial flooring contractor, describes it as built for thermal shock and installed at about 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick.
What to tell the contractor
- What's on the floor: forklifts, pallet jacks, rolling tool chests, cars, foot traffic only
- What gets spilled: oil, brake fluid, solvents, food, hot water
- Whether the floor is ever wet, and whether it needs slip resistance
- Any code, inspector or client requirements for the finish
- When the space can be empty, and for how long

Questions people ask
Can the work be done after hours or over a weekend?
Usually. Fast-curing polyaspartic systems are often chosen for exactly that reason. Larger floors may be done in phases.
Do warehouse joints need to be filled?
Cracks and spalled joints should be repaired before coating so the coating doesn't break at the edges. Ask how the contractor handles control joints.
